Ashton Richardson
Since he was eight years old, he aspired to become a judge and dedicated his entire academic career thus far to achieving this goal.
Born and raised on Sint Maarten, Ashton is a true Sint Maartener, having attended public Dutch Schools on the island and is a familiar face among his peers.
After his secondary education on Sint Maarten, he traveled to The Hague, Netherlands, to study HBO-Rechten (English stream) (LL.B), and eventually Groningen to pursue a Masters (LL.M) specializing in Global Criminal Law and organized crime. Ashton graduated with distinction and an honors in Leadership.
During his studies in the Netherlands, Ashton was granted the opportunity to work for five judges at the Special Tribunal for Lebanon’s Trial Chambers. One Judge in particular, who was also of Caribbean descent, solidified Ashton’s aspirations to become a judge for an international criminal court.
This same judge advised Ashton to return to his home country in order to get domestic experience in law.
So, Ashton returned home and is now practicing law as a junior at Brooks & Associates. “I have recognized the plight of our people and will dedicate my time on beautiful Sint Maarten to assisting my fellow man and to offer a voice to many who are in need of one”.
